అదితి పన్నెండు రోజులు పయోవ్రతమును ఆచరించగా భగవానుడు ప్రత్యక్షమై తాను ఆమె కుమారుడుగా జన్మించి దేవతలను కాపాడుతానని వరమిచ్చెను. భాద్రపద శుద్ధ ద్వాదశి శ్రవణ నక్షత్రమున వామనుడు చతుర్భుజుడై జన్మించి, మహర్షులు ఉపనయన సంస్కారమును నిర్వహించిరి. వామనుడు నర్మదా నది ఉత్తర తీరమున బలి నిర్వహిస్తున్న అశ్వమేధ యాగమునకు వెళ్ళగా, బలి భక్తితో పాద ప్రక్షాళన చేసి ఏదైనా కోరుకొమ్మని అడిగెను. వామనుడు కేవలం మూడు అడుగుల భూమి మాత్రమే కోరి, అదే సమయంలో ఇంద్రియ నిగ్రహము లేనివానికి సమస్త సంపదలు లభించినా తృప్తి కలగదని, సంతోషమే ముక్తికి హేతువని బోధించెను.
This discourse covers the story of Aditi performing the Payovrata for 12 days, after which Lord Vishnu appeared and promised to be born as her son Vamana to protect the Devas. Vamana was born on Bhadrapada Shudda Dwadashi (Shravana Dwadashi) with divine splendor, and sages performed his upanayana ceremony with gifts from celestial beings. Vamana then proceeded to Bali's ashwamedha yagna on the northern banks of the Narmada, where Bali welcomed him with great reverence and offered to grant any wish. When Vamana asked for only three paces of land, Bali was puzzled, but Vamana responded with a profound teaching that no amount of wealth can satisfy uncontrolled senses, and contentment alone leads to liberation.
