In this profound episode from Canto 6 of the Srimad Bhagavatham, Lord Vishnu imparts divine counsel to Indra and the Devas as they face the terrifying might of the demon Vritrasura. Following Vishnu's guidance, the gods approach the great sage Dadhichi with a humble and desperate plea for his bones to forge the mighty weapon Vajrayudha. In an act of supreme selflessness and devotion, Sage Dadhichi willingly surrenders his mortal body so that his bones may serve the cause of dharma and the welfare of all creation.
