Canto 5 of the Srimad Bhagavatham opens with a majestic vision of the universal arrangement, guiding us through the sacred history of Emperor Priyavrata, the illustrious son of Svayambhuva Manu. Though Priyavrata was deeply inclined toward spiritual renunciation under the guidance of Sage Narada, Lord Brahma lovingly persuaded him to fulfill his royal duties for the welfare of the world. Priyavrata ruled the earth with such unparalleled devotion and power that his chariot wheels carved out the seven oceans and seven continents as we know them today. This episode beautifully reveals how a true devotee of the Lord can engage in worldly responsibilities while keeping the heart firmly rooted in God.
