In this sacred episode of Srimad Bhagavatham, Canto 3, the great sage Maitreya reveals to Vidura the divine process by which the five gross elements — earth, water, fire, air, and space — emerge in sequential order from the subtle sense objects known as tanmatras. Each tanmatra, born of the primordial ego in the mode of ignorance, gives rise to a corresponding gross element, beautifully illustrating how the entire material creation unfolds through the will of the Supreme Lord.
